Youth INC

Youth INC is a venture philanthropy organization whose mission is to transform the lives of NYC youth by empowering the nonprofits that serve them.

We've taken a uniquely holistic approach to address the many different needs of nonprofits, from improving fundraising practices and building boards to funding critical infrastructure elements. By applying the best practices from the corporate, academic, and nonprofit sectors, we empower our partner nonprofits with the tools to achieve sustainable growth.

Since our inception in 1994, Youth INC has raised over $110 million to strengthen more than 190 grassroots organizations that collectively have helped over 1 million young people achieve their full potential in life. Investments in youth-development organizations that build the Social Emotional Learning of young people produce an 11-point gain in grades and test scores and an 11x return for every $1 invested. This support means that Youth INC's more than $110 million raised has generated over $1 billion in impact.

We envision a world in which all young people, regardless of their zip code, have equitable access to the opportunity to actualize their dreams and realize their potential.

OUR HISTORY

For over 25 years, Youth INC has strived to improve the lives of New York City's next generation by empowering the nonprofit organizations that serve them. Founded by former Goldman Sachs investment banker Steve Orr, we were first known Youth EnterNet of America and then as "Youth, I.N.C." — the acronym stood for "Improving Nonprofits for Children," a principle that remains the core of our mission today.

After observing that nonprofits struggled to expand their resources and organizational structure as they evolved, Steve was inspired to found Youth INC. Steve and former ABC President Jim Duffy concluded that corporations and business leaders would donate to small but innovative nonprofits if they could be assured that these organizations would use the funds effectively and serve children.

Today, our Venture Philanthropy model continues to identify and screen the best youth-development nonprofits in NYC. We give our partner nonprofits the tools and resources to grow their operations and expand their impact. We provide our supporters with leverage so they can make informed philanthropic decisions and help an entire portfolio of organizations become more robust.

Since its inception, Youth INC has raised over $110 million to empower more than 190 grassroots organizations that collectively have helped over 1 million young people achieve their full potential in life.

Mr. Orr is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Orr Group, and has facilitated the growth and evolution of the firm to its current position as a national leader in the nonprofit consulting sector.

We encourage you to visit the Orr Group’s article on The ESG Opportunity For Nonprofits as Environment, Society, and Governance should not be viewed in isolation from one another or separate from the ethos of any organization. They belong in every meeting and every casual interaction, creating an enriched experience for stakeholders, employee retention and opportunity to better amplify ones efforts.
