Children of Promise, NYC

ALLIANT LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE AWARD AND AETNA RISING STAR AWARD FINALIST

Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) reimagines a just society that values the purpose of every child impacted by mass incarceration and removes barriers to create opportunities for children to thrive and achieve their human potential. CPNYC is a community-centered 501c3 nonprofit that partners with children and families impacted by mass incarceration to dismantle the stigma and heal from the trauma plaguing Black and Brown communities. CPNYC has grown over the last twelve years to provide children ages 6-18, their caregivers, and the incarcerated parent with a free, licensed Outpatient Mental Health Clinic, After School Program, Summer Day Camp, One-to-One Mentoring, Teen Program, and Healthy Meals Program. Our objective is to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system. It is a devastating reality that 1 in 9 African American children have a parent in prison compared with 1 in 57 Caucasian children.
